When springtime hits, Marie Kondo is front and center preaching us to only keep items that spark joy. What sparks joy in us is an organized, well-kept home. Here’s our spring rundown to make sure that our home stays cozy, clean and refreshing all year-round.
Start at the top and work your way down
Just like you stop at the top of your to-do list, the same applies to your home’s spring-cleaning checklist. Up first should be your home’s roof and gutters.
Winter storms and harsh winds can do a number on your roof. As soon as the temperatures start to heat up, it’s important to get on top of the roof to inspect your shingles’ overall condition. Your roof and shingles are your home’s first line of defense against storms, so it’s essential that they are in tip-top shape.
What purpose do gutters have? They are installed to prevent potential water damage by directing water flow away from your siding, windows, doors, and foundation. After the frost melts, it’s an ideal time to clean out your gutters to make sure they are not clogged, leaking, or broken in any way. Acorns, seeds, leaves, and other debris can fill your gutters and can cause large problems. Make sure it’s at the top of your list at least twice a year.
Inspect your curb appeal
Check your siding to make sure that there are no holes or imperfections that can cause more damage if left unattended. Signs that your siding needs a facelift is peeling paint around the trim, discoloration, or any obvious holes or cracks. To gauge the seriousness of these dings, call your local home renovation professional. They can tell you whether it’s time for a paint job or whether your home needs new siding. Both of these projects are ideal to kick off in the springtime.
Spark joy this season by keeping your home clean and cozy for your family to enjoy for years to come.
